Healthy eating in Ramadan-
IFTAR WITH DATES
The Prophet’s way is the best way….- Why is it considered spiritually and nutritionally healthy to break the Ramadan fast with dates?
“Dates (Tamr-arabic)–--The Energy-Enhancer Fruit !”
Breaking the Ramadan fast with dates is an important Muslim tradition and valued nutritionally amongst the beneficial things to eat during this holy month . It is possible to break a fast with any food available. Why Muslims Should Prefer to Break Their Fast with Dates? The Prophet’s way is the best way .“Truly, in the Messenger of Allah [SAWS] you have a good example to follow for the one who hopes for the Meeting with Allah and the Last Day and remembers Allah much.”.Salman ibn Amir Dhabi related that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Break your fast with dates, or else with water, for it is pure (Abu Dawud) Prophet (saw) had preached his followers the spiritual, nutritional and health benefits of dates thus showing their importance and to consume it regularly. The Prophet (saw) said:A family which has dates will not be hungry.(Muslim).Dates were the food Almighty Allah recommended and provided for Sayyidah Maryam when she felt labor pains. It was a prescription of dates to make the delivery easy, comfortable and perhaps with less pain. "Shake the trunk of the palm tree, and it will drop ripe dates on you, so eat, drink, and comfort your eyes with what Allah gave you." (Qur'an 19:25). Firstly, the reward for reviving a Sunnah:“Whoever revives an aspect of my Sunnah that is forgotten after my death, he will have a reward equivalent to that of the people who follow him, without it detracting in the least from their reward.” [Reported by al-Tirmidhi] However, aside from the vast religious and traditional reasons, Muslims are encouraged to break their fast with dates for nutritional benefits too. A single date contains an average amount of 25-30 calories. The calorie count , a quick burst of energy. and the huge amount of healthy substances in dates are the perfect food to consume after hours of fasting. Dates contain also Vitamin A1, B1, B2, B3, B5, C and more than 20 different amino acids; they help us digest and assimilate carbohydrates easier and control blood sugar levels and fatty acids content in our bodies. The selenium lowers the risk of cancer and heart diseases, as well as helps us keep our immune systems healthy. Dates are also rich in natural fibers and therefore the eating of them helps to fight many of the ailments of intestinal disturbances with which we commonly suffer today. Offering a wide variety of nutritional benefits such as iron, potassium, magnesium, sulphur, copper, calcium and phosphorus.. Certain researches have also shown that dates contain some stimulants which strengthen the muscles of the uterus in the last months of pregnancy Sayyidah Aishah (R.A.) used to prescribe dates for those suffering with giddiness. The Prophet (saw) took all varieties of dates, but preferred the variety called dates of cure 'Ajwah’ in Arabic. Sayyidah Aisha (RA) related the saying of Allah's Messenger (saw), "Ajwah date is an excellent remedy." (Bukhari and Muslim) "Ajwah is from Paradise (Tirmidhi).“If somebody takes some ‘Ajwa dates every morning, he will not be affected by poison or magic on that day till night.”(Bukhari)
Breaking the Fast in prophet mosque Al Madina needs a special mention- a rare scene to watch. as soon as devotees step through the gates of the Mosque, many children coming running from all directions attempting to invite people to break the fast with them with special type of refrigerated fresh dates of “Rotana” variety called “Rutoob”- -; or small containers of “zabadi” (yoghurt) and water. Where it is, millions of hungry people are invited to take food at one time, without any stampede - a classical example of charity, equality, discipline and hygiene to witness.
A common mistake which many Muslim women make in Ramadan is that they spend far too much time in the kitchen preparing variety of dishes, heaps of fruit chaat ,frying samosas or pakoras for Iftar and for Sehar (Sehri) thus spending the majority of their time. This takes away from the valuable time available for worshiping Allah during this blessed month used up for. Also a lot of food gets wasted during Ramadan as people throw iftar parties to outdo each other in putting up huge iftar spreads comprising many dishes that leave patrons biting off more than they can chew. Ramadan is a holy month where you get the chance to get in touch with Allah(st) and everyone knows Allah(ST)doesn't like people wasting food. Help the poor and the needy, feed the people who are fasting ALLAH will bless you all without reducing your rewards.
Can Diabetics eat dates? Depending on the severity of your Diabetes It is better to have a limited amount of these sweet items with high GI /GR value. It provides natural sugar in the form of glucose and fructose. Having them once in a while probably won't hurt but to be safe, ask your Physician.
Dates also have a special place in Islam. In fact, they were one of the Prophet's (SAW) most frequently consumed foods. Breaking fast with Dates brings benefits most likely spiritual as well as for good health. However, the act of following the Prophet's (SAW) tradition is one way of connecting and remembering him, which is spiritually beneficial for Muslims.

HOW ESSENTIAL IS MORALITY TO HEALTHCARE?
Lifesaver tainted by unholy nexus.
Over centuries, the medical profession has maintained ethical standards. Their magnificent contributions and landmark discoveries in medical sciences and innovations in diagnostic and therapeutic techniques have revolutionized patient care, saved countless lives, and significantly improved longevity and the quality of human life. Beyond its scientific and technical contributions, medicine is uniquely fulfilling as a ‘Noble profession’. In return, it has been accorded the respect of society, of other professions as a noble profession imbued with eminence, dignity, high ideals, and ethical values. In the recent past, unfortunately, there has been a sharp decline in the ethical conduct of some of the medical practitioners, lifesavers are accused of an unholy nexus with private hospitals, diagnostic centres and-pharmaceutical-companies by getting kickbacks. Materialistic influence has produced a highly greediest mentality; and while engaging in professional activities at times they lose sight of the ethical, human, and noble values of their profession. Here are some things people have said about us that baffled me? Doctors get commissions from pharma companies, Private hospitals (nursing homes) and diagnostic centres? If yes, How-much?
Agreeably, some of them do indulge in unhealthy commission business. Some doctors will suggest certain tests to be done at particular labs, or diagnostic centres especially from those they get commission from. Sadly, it is a common notion in public, If a doctor prescribed you for tests, please go to Government undertaking labs the cost will be 30% to 50% less than the private labs. If a doctor needs the report of the same lab as he/she suggests, then avoid that doctor or try a reputed laboratory known to be running “not for profit. A private laboratory owner (not for profit ) told me privately the actual cost of the test in a private lab is about 40% to 30% less than you paid. Another problem in our private medical care which frequently patients complain to me is that if a doctor prescribes some medicine, it will only be available only in his/her shop attached to his/her clinic, or in the nearest medical shop or the shop of his/her choice. What does that mean?
The Medical field is now a business so beware of fraudsters.
Well, some doctors do indulge in cuts, commissions for referrals .When confronted, all the people inline involved (the doctors, diagnostic centres, ,private hospitals) initially refused to me about the presence of any such clandestine arrangement but when we took some of these into confidence and discussed with them the gravity of issue with clear examples of persona A BC and places XYZ involved, showed some samples of inflated bills or of unnecessary tests and interventions, prescriptions of costly or unnecessary drugs, medicines prescribed only from xxx company, referrals to diagnostic centre’s or nursing homes , the existence of commission book they cooperated and admitted that they are paying the doctor or, staff, or middlemen for bringing patients to them. Some of these involved even confessed ,that they had to start doing so as others had started the practice and they did not want to lose competition(business) due to the cut-throat competition between various hospitals and diagnostic centres ,and they have to by bank loans
So how does it work actually?
Suppose I wrote medicines worth 10 thousand of a company, the company’s representative comes to thank me for the confidence I have shown in their product and they offer to help us with something in exchange. For example, academics (sponsoring conferences, CMES or getting books etc. It is a common understanding among the medical fraternity that legally we are allowed to take their help with academics. When I say that, I don't mean that sponsoring is restricted to conferences, tickets abroad ,or showering me or my family with costly gifts only.
There is an outcry in the society about doctors accepting huge favours from pharma companies. Let me clear that for you, not every doctor accepts favours from companies. I personally know many who strictly have instructed medical representatives to not offer anything at all. What is my defence on resisting the temptation of commission beyond my moral principles? If I am new in my practice, to survive in the competition I have to give results. Which means my patients have to improve better and faster which requires two things, one accurate diagnosis and second good quality medicines. If I prescribe medicines of a substandard company which is not effective, I may get the commission they are offering but my patient will not improve and I will not survive in practice. Hence, no doctor will prefer prescribing substandard medicines just for the sake of commission. So, the ultimate point is…some doctors might be accepting those gifts. There are good and bad people in every profession. But not all doctors do that. And for our own survival also, we do want our patients to get better, so no question of compromising on quality of treatment for small favours. For some time , people have started exaggerating the nexus between companies and doctors, and blame doctors for everything. Government launched generic medicines under Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) with an objective of making quality generic medicines available at affordable prices to all, to prevent the so-called bribe doctors were taking but prescribing generic medicine is not without hassles. Suppose I prescribe paracetamol (generic name) to a patient for fever. I know a certain brand of molecule is effective and so I write let’s say brand “DOLO ,”you go to the medical store he says it’s a brand name but we have generic medicines, do you want those? You take them. But then do generic medicines have no brand at all? Who produces them then? It’s just that the shop owner will give you the cheaper drug from some local company which may or may not be effective…blame comes on the doctor not treating well. Whilst we can’t say don’t take it, I give my patients options and ask them to buy any one of those. If they choose to go generic, I tell them it’s their decision and then the efficacy of treatment can’t be guaranteed by me and most of the patients trust my opinion.
Golden card under PMJY scheme would have proved game changer in this direction, unfortunately it has also run into scams and is exploited by many dirtbags. The principles and responsibilities of medical professionalism must be clearly understood by both the professionals and the society. Essential to this contract is public trust in Doctors which depends on the integrity of both individual physicians and the whole profession. I know, and many people in society will acknowledge that most physicians are good and the sacred relationship between patient and doctors which has existed since ages will not perish with certain aberrations here or there. This doesn’t mean all doctors are noble, as with any profession, we do have many bad apples that need appropriate treatment – some physicians are greedy. We all agree medicine arose out of primary sympathy of humankind and a desire to help those in sickness. This relationship arises out of the pain and suffering of one person and an offer of hope by another and, factually, most of the doctors are fulfilling this obligation. It is unfortunate that we have begun calling the Medical professionals as “businessmen in an industry” – it somehow undermines and discourages the dedication of the majority of Medical professionals involved in care of the patients, and denigrates the “noble profession”. Society in general and patients in particular may also play a part in this discontent. Physicians are constantly faced with patients and their relatives who have begun to respond in high tech ways. Amidst the menace of dangerous practice of self- medication prevailing in the valley, some patients after going through the web acquire some knowledge of disease and required tests and feel that if a practitioner does not prescribe a fancy new test, he or she is not updated. The medical profession everywhere is embedded in diverse cultures and local constraints. Market forces, societal pressures, and administrative exigencies must not compromise this principle. I am confident that the medical profession is still a noble profession and the sacred bond between patients and practitioners will endure despite new storms. Even in these uncertain times I continue to believe in the innate moral strength and humanity of my profession.
Some years ago, I was participating in a panel discussion on the future of healthcare, at a leading institute of health management. I heard many of the panellists affirming that healthcare and public health must absorb and apply the efficiency-enhancing practices of business management. I agreed, but only partially. I said, “the mantra of healthcare business management is, efficiency and profit, while the mantra of healthcare and public health management must be accessibility affordability, efficiency and equity.” While underscoring this vital difference in the goals of these two practice disciplines, I should have added ethics too alongside equity. I politely let it be assumed that healthcare management would ideally be bound by ethics, even as it pursued efficiency and profit.
Where things go wrong? the way some private hospitals were being ruthlessly run by management graduates who had no medical background. They lacked empathy and their only objective was to maximise profits for the investors who owned the hospital. The situation is worsening, with foreign investors gaining control of established Indian hospitals. Their representatives are squeezing the doctors to generate more and more revenues, often through unnecessary tests and procedures as well as over-billing. These complaints were not new, but to hear it from a leading doctor of my status in a private hospital who felt oppressed and revolted by the unethical practices revealed to me the extent to which mercenary management had derailed value based medical practice.
India’s mixed health system has evolved by default, not by design. We need to make the best use of all our healthcare providers and avoid exploitation of vulnerable patients. To improve access, affordability, and quality of healthcare, we need the public sector to be more responsive, the private sector to be more responsible and the voluntary sector to be more resourceful. More funds diverted towards healthcare expenditure above current 2. 0% GDP .At present, the medical profession is confronted by an explosion of‘technicalization’, specialization and commercialization. Despite initiatives by authorities’ health care remains as an over-promised, over-burdened, over-spent, but not “overhauled sector. At times we are facing shortage of resources due to dearth of beds, or expertise of care providers (Specialists and paramedics)or modern machinery. In such an atmosphere dedicated physicians find it increasingly difficult to meet the expectations of patients from giving the standard care they need. These challenges centre on increasing disparities among the legitimate needs of patients, the available resources to meet those needs, the increasing dependence on market forces to transform health care systems, and the temptation for physicians to forsake their traditional commitment to the primacy of patients’ interests. In these circumstances, reaffirming the fundamental and universal principles of primacy of patient welfare and values of medical professionalism, which remain ideals to be pursued by all physicians, becomes even more important. This principle is based on a dedication to serving the interest of the patient.

QUALITY ASSURANCE IN CLINICAL LABORATORY SYSTEM & Private Diagnostic Centers .gawah express 12 feb 2023
How reliable is clinical laboratory testing? Hospital And Clinical Laboratory Tests Can Be Wrong. From food additives, beverages and drug screens to vital medical tests, faulty systems may hide lab problems from the public. Weak vigilance allows lab facilities to put patients at risk-Dr Fiaz Fazili
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Everyone assumes lab results are always correct. The first thing that everyone (patients and doctors) should remember is that lab test results can be wrong’s (name changed ) having on the advice of endocrinologist for her subclinical symptoms went to a popular lab of city to test her thyroid function status ;few days later she was handed over result of TSH 8.6 .Not believing the result-her treating Doctor advised her to repeat the test before he could think of prescribing thyroxine for her ;this time she chose another popular lab for repeating her TFT.Two days later this lab reported her TSH level as 4.5mcgm; (at 4.5 you may not start thyroxine while value of 8.6 warrants some sort of hormone replacement).Mrs; AA((name changed) a teacher with type 2 diabetes while doing her regular self-check of Diabetic control asked for Hb A1c level at one of the city lab.The result was 8.5(poor glycaemic control).Unconvinced and depressed the teacher went to another lab, their result was 6.6 (good glycaemic control). With such erratic results(tip of iceberg ) from labs I can understand how difficult it is for patients along with their treating physicians esp involved in Endocrinology ,Nephrology; Rheumatology etc ) to manage the disease.Recently a story on social media ,inaccuracy in reporting of a urine sample sent simultaneously to three labs has become viral.
Where things can go wrong?
As a Clinical auditor and expert on Quality control having two decades experience in assessing clinical labs for accreditation I learnt that computers can be unreliable , but unaudited human handlers are even more unreliable. Any system which depends on machines or humans without cross checks and balances is unreliable. I have yet to see any manufacturer’s lifetime guarantee for zero fault or error free equipment. This may sound rather sacrilegious for some non accredited labs who don't follow any national or international quality control standards when clients all are made to believe that a computer generated piece of paper containing figures of our tests the result must be accurately regarded by lab owners with some sort of reverence .
”Can we do better”, what do quality people believe in while promoting a culture of no blame no name an OVR- observation variance reporting with a collective objective-Is there anything that we can learn and change to do things better way? Speaking in general not blaming in particular I do appreciate efforts of labs who run on no profit/loss or carry out tests under constant vigil of highly qualified professionals and trained personnel operate and maintain sensitive equipment with audit tools of reliability, precision and accuracy. I say,” there is always room for further improvement”.
What are the indicators of test reliability?
Quality control in the clinical laboratory system is very important. The standard /goal of the service is to provide comprehensive and accurate analytical results, thereby forming a bridge between the patient and care providers. The primary aim of quality control is to see that the very purpose for which a test is performed is not defeated due to unreliability of the result. “Accuracy and Precision “ in Lab testing are two most commonly used key performance indicators to determine the reliability of a clinical lab test. Statistical measurements of accuracy((Trueness) and precision (Repeatability) reveal a lab’s basic reliability, reflecting how well the test method performs day to day in a laboratory. It is imperative on each lab the accuracy and precision of each test method are established with strict follow up through frequent monitoring/auditing by the professional lab personnel.
Causes and frequency of Clinical lab errors.
Many mistakes in the total testing process are called "laboratory errors", although these may be due to poor communication, action taken by others involved in the testing process (e.g., physicians, nurses, and phlebotomists), or poorly designed processes, all of which are beyond the laboratory's control. The Organization for Standardization (ISO) recommends a new, broader definition of the term "laboratory error" and a classification of errors according to different criteria pre-, intra- and post-analytical errors. In the delivery of laboratory testing, mistakes occur more frequently due to pre-analytical factors (46-68.2% of total errors), while a high error rate (18.5-47% of total errors) has also been found in the after (post-analytical) the test has been performed. Errors due to analytical problems have been significantly reduced over time, but there is evidence that, particularly for immunoassays, interference may have a serious impact on patients.
Currently, we have two types of labs. In majority sample collection and analysis is done under same roof ,but many labs have collection centers at different places, inside /outside city /state and samples are transported from these centers to main lab situated inside or outside state .For such labs transport of blood samples or components to the appropriate locations /designated centers ,the following requirements/ SOPs need to be in place-;who is responsible for transporting blood samples; validation of transport container for appropriateness of temp –ice-packing- cooling pack ;security of transport container ,was the sample received within recommended transport time? etc.
The way forward; Mushrooming of unregulated Medical Labs is a serious health hazard. Private diagnostic centres flourish in States in absence of proper guidelines. Independent laboratories could be found in every nook and corner as there is no Quality control to obtain approval from the state health department or any other competent government authority prior to opening such centres. Also, neither there are any specific guidelines to run these laboratories nor rules defining qualification of their staff. No criteria in place to monitor their functioning. In the absence of definitive rules and regulations, the health department is unable to keep tabs on standardisation of tests besides kits and equipment used by these centres. As of now, technicians, who hold diplomas and graduate degrees in medical laboratory technology, are running labs, but there are no criteria to verify and check the validation of their qualification and institutes from where they have obtained it. Neither the Government has formulated guidelines for the registration of private laboratories nor authorised any agency to monitor their functioning. That’s why no strict rules apply to these labs . We are also demanding the Government to form a body of independent laboratories on the pattern of diagnostic tests performed to govern and regulate operations of private labs
Errors in clinical laboratories or in laboratory medicine are well recognized and reputed lab managers carry out regular internal /external equipment audit but majority of our labs remain unaccredited (sadly majority of our labs don’t have- National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL certification). For all stakeholders, patients, physicians ,lab owners and administrators the way one perceives errors and risks is important; it aims the investigation for causes, and thus possibilities for prevention, of errors. There are often combinations of several factors that give rise to an error. Thus, a “fix-all” solution is seldom sufficient to prevent an accident from happening again. Pending CAPA –corrective and preventive action from competent authorities , if you’ve had an incorrect lab test or suspicious results know of problems in a specific lab-or your lab results don’t match the clinical condition; the first thing you or your treating Physician should do is repeat the result in the same /other lab, I am sure certain lab owners whom I know personally will not hesitate to repeat the test free of cost., in case you have reservation you can chose another lab after few days interval-(-to be concluded--— What Do People Want from Their Healthcare? Continuous Quality improvement (CQI ) in Hospitals, private diagnostic centers -but Where is quality check -?

Celebrating VALENTINE’S DAY-an Islamic perspective
MUSLIM VIEWS ON MORALITY
Celebrating VALENTINE’S DAY-an Islamic perspective
Why MUSLIMS don't Celebrate ?Gawah express 19feb2023
Islam does recognise happy occasions that bring people closer to one another ,but there are certain western customs that may not be acceptable for a Muslim, like celebrating Valentine’s day .The practice is clearly un islamic and Muslims must not contribute anyway to anything that means celebrating the day, writes Dr. Fiaz Fazili.
Most Muslims agree on certain moral principles. For example, in nearly all countries surveyed, a majority says it is necessary to believe in God to be a moral person. There also is widespread agreement that some behaviors – including drinking alcohol, close proximity realtionships outside marriage, homosexuality and committing suicide – are immoral.
Muslim authorities decry Valentine’s Day celebrations as many of the Muslims follow customs and ways of behaviour like non Muslims, and imitate them in some of their rituals by celebrating their holidays. In recent years, a new phenomenon has spread among the Muslim youth which does not augur well for them. They celebrate Valentine’s Day without knowing its origin and whether it is permissible in Islamic beliefs or not. Islam commands its followers to avoid many things that contradict some of the doctrines which a Muslim is supposed to believe in. Some of them are prohibited because they are immoral, unethical or unhealthy or they represent disobedience to the devotional duties, the violation of which may constitute a major sin. Prophet (SAW) told us that a section of his ummah would follow the enemies of Allah in some of their rituals and customs, “You will certainly follow the ways of those who came before you, span by span, cubit by cubit, until even if they were to enter a lizard’s hole, you would follow them.” (Bukhaari/Muslim). What the Prophet (SAW) spoke of has indeed come true and has become widespread in recent times. Many Muslims follow non-Muslims in many of their customs and ways of behaving, and imitate them in some of their rituals and in celebrating their holidays.
There is a lot of debate and disagreement among scholars about the origins of Valentine’s Day. There were many myths associated with this festival; most famous being the Roman belief that Valentine Day originated in the 5th Century when the Romans were engaged in a pagan celebration in mid-February commemorating a young man’s rite of passage to the god Lupercus. The names of the teenage women were placed in a box and drawn at random by adolescent men; thus, a man was assigned a woman companion for the duration of a year, after which another lottery was staged. The Christian clergy reacted against this tradition, which they considered to have a corrupting influence on the morals of young men and women. The early church fathers sought to end this practice. They found an answer in Valentine, a bishop who had been martyred some two hundred years earlier. At that time the Roman Emperor Claudius-II had issued an edict forbidding marriage. He felt that married men were more emotionally attached to their families, and thus, will not make good soldiers. So to assure quality soldiers, he banned marriage.
Valentine, seeing the trauma of young lovers, met them in a secret place, and joined them in the sacrament of matrimony. Claudius learned of this “friend of lovers,” and had him arrested. The emperor, impressed with the young priest’s dignity and conviction, attempted to convert him to the roman gods, to save him from certain execution. Valentine refused to recognize Roman Gods and even attempted to convert the emperor, knowing fully its consequences. While Valentine was in prison awaiting his fate, he came in contact with his jailor Asterius. The jailor had a blind daughter. Asterius requested him to heal his daughter. Through his faith he miraculously restored the sight of Asterius’ daughter. Just before his execution, he asked for a pen and paper from his jailor, and signed a farewell message to her “From Your Valentine,” a phrase that lived ever after, and the first Valentine card grew out of this practice. Cupid, another symbol of the holiday, who appears as a child with two wings, carrying a bow and arrows became associated with it because he was the son of Venus, the Roman god of love and beauty. Cupid often appears on Valentine cards.
In Islam, the festivals are clearly defined and well established. They have been prescribed for us by Allah, “For every nation we have ordained religious ceremonies which they must follow” (al-Hajj 22:67). Muslims should not follow Western cultures in the name of modernization and without knowing that certain practices of such culture are against the Islamic teachings. Valentine’s Day goes back to the non Islamic era of Romans and celebrating it means resembling or imitating the Romans. The Prophet (SAW) has said: “Whoever imitates a people is one of them.” (Ahmad, Abu Dawood). Muslim scholars are urging Muslims to shun Valentine’s Day, saying, “It conflicts with Islamic principles and could cause moral erosion. Unmarried couples might come together and mingle with each other in unacceptable ways”. There are certain western customs that may not be acceptable for a Muslim . It is sad to note that many of our youth, perhaps unwary or ignorant, support these festivals in some form or other-either actively or passively without knowing its origin, and whether it is permissible in Islamic beliefs or not. The Islamic scholars should shed light on the origin of this festival known as “Valentines day Or Festival of Love ,”and other similar festivals/customs to create awareness in Muslims so as not to follow such festivals/ customs blindly in the name of modernization without verifying their acceptance in Islam. The Fatwa of the Standing Committee and opinions of Muslim scholars concerning Valentine’s Day clearly forbids Muslims from taking part in such festivals. The Muslim’s attitude towards this day should be clear. It is forbidden for the Muslim to help with this festival or any other forbidden celebration in any way, be it food, drink, clothing, exchanging gifts/cards ,buying, selling, manufacturing, corresponding(sending messages), advertising or in any other way, because all of that constitutes helping one another in sin, transgression and disobedience towards Allah and His Messenger. So Muslims must adhere to the Qur’an and Sunnah in all their affairs, especially at times of fitan (temptation and tribulation) and when corruption is widespread.” He should be careful to avoid falling into the misguidance of those who have earned the anger of Allah and of those who went astray, and of the evildoers who hope not for reward from Allah and do not show any respect towards Islam”.(Al-Lajnah.. wa’l-Iftaa’).
Large numbers of ignorant Muslim youth wear red heart-shaped stickers on their faces, writing names and shaping hearts on their hands, or just initials, printing love poems on cards and exchanging red balloons on which are written provocative words. Some tie a red ribbon on the right wrist. And the things that result from partying, idle play, singing, music, impertinence, unveiling, wanton display, mixing of men and women etc are means which lead to immorality . Without resorting to moral policing, we must oppose these forbidden things by all possible means (preferably by creating awareness and education) while respecting the privacy of other people under prevailing local laws. Let us pray to Allah to protect the our youth from the harm of temptations and from the evil of their own selves and the plots of their enemies.—

GAWAH EXPTREESS 23 FEB2023

Throughout the passage of time, natural disasters have been attributed to some global disturbances of climatic changes and injudicious deforestation. Global warming can increase disaster risk in a variety of ways by altering the frequency and intensity of hazard events, affecting vulnerability to hazards, and changing exposure patterns deforestation affect the natural environment, the loss of trees and other vegetation can cause climate change, desertification, soil erosion, fewer crops, flooding, increased greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, and a host of problems for indigenous people.
Early warning systems – science or service first? Over those past few years many natural disasters like fast winds, floods, earthquakes, hurricanes snowstorms, landslide, and etc, and pandemics like covid have been occurring more frequently than before causing havoc to the life and property .Over the past 60 years as population has grown with increasing urbanization and economic activities have expanded with increasing diversity, society has had a greater demand for weather warning services to protect life and property against weather hazards. Partly in response to this demand and partly due to the advances in monitoring and prediction capabilities, early warning systems have developed and grown over the years in variety, covering such hazards as tropical cyclones, high winds, heavy rain, snow, thunderstorms, extreme temperatures, droughts and reduced visibility. National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHSs) all over the world have an essential role to play in bringing about disaster reduction through delivery of quality public weather services, including the provision of weather forecasts, early warnings on hazardous weather, outreach activities to enhance public awareness of weather hazards, interpretation and use of the weather information, as well as collaboration with disaster relief organizations to minimize loss of life and property. Despite the advances, limitations in weather forecasting remain to this day, Warning systems have grown in complexity, with warnings often graded in levels, each triggering different response actions by the public. The time scale of warnings has also evolved from days to hours to minutes, in accordance with synoptic-scale, down to meso-scale or even to local-scale phenomena (such as tornadoes). Overall, these warnings have been effective in disaster prevention and reduction. However, weatherman Mr Sonam Lotus, or his colleagues often must, or are under pressure to, provide services even before the relevant science is established or the technology is available.
What Does the Holy Scriptures Say About Natural Disasters? In various scriptures natural calamities are seen as,” Warning Legends to Check Humanity”. One can't completely brush aside these legendary stories in all religions, and civilizations easily, which are concerned with the supernatural power that controls the human world and the punishment incurred due to disobedience of humans. The top Bible verses about natural disasters mention about great destruction on the earth. Peter says that the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements (stoicheia) of the earth will burn up (2 Pet 3:10, 12). Jesus as Muslims call him Prophet Essa AS refers to earthquakes, famine, and pestilence (Luke 21:11; par. Matt 24:7; Mark 13:8).
Classic discussions about the paradox of evil in the world, given the Bible’s claim that an omnipotent, omniscient, omnibenevolent Creator governs all things, generally proceed on the grounds that evil originates from one of two sources. Evil comes from wicked people and evil comes from so-called natural disasters. On this day, ironically, the attention of millions of people in our nation is riveted upon evil events from both sources. While we pause to remember and honour those who died at the hands of recent pandemic like Covid leaving a path of death and destruction in its wake. In some ways, the malevolent acts of wicked people are easier to explain than catastrophes of violent weather, shifting tectonic plates, and fatal diseases.
From the very beginning of human existence, humankind has been in search of answers for the loss, grief and bereavement produced by these natural disasters. When the Prophet Muhammad (saw) heard thunder or a thunderbolt, he used to say: "My Lord, do not kill us with Your wrath and do not send us to perdition by inflicting suffering on us. Spare us all that, our Lord. Noted Islamic Scholar Dr.M.Sidiqui in light of the holy Quran and Hadiths concludes on three points, 1. Natural disasters are punishment of Allah Subhanahu Wa Taala for those people who are either disbelievers or cross His limits; 2. Natural disasters are a warning for the sinners;3. Natural disasters are a test for the believers. Further elaborating these inferences in the light of holy Quran and Hadith, we are given to understand that natural disasters are punishment of Allah for those people who are either disbelievers or cross His limits. On different instances in the holy Quran Allah SWT has clarified that natural disasters result from His disobedience. “And whatever misfortune befalls you, it is because of what your hands have earned. And He pardons much. (Ash-Shura 42:30).” And if Allah were to punish men for that which they earned, He would not leave a moving (living) creature on the surface of the earth, but He gives them respite to an appointed term, and when their term comes, then verily, Allah is ever all Seer of His slaves.” (Fatir 35:45).” Evil (sins and disobedience of Allah etc.) has appeared on land and sea because of what the hands of men have earned (by oppression and evil deeds, etc.), that Allah may make them taste a part of that which they have done, in order that they may return (by repenting to Allah and begging His Pardon). (Ar-Rum 30:41).” And if the people of the towns had believed and had the Taqwâ (piety), certainly We should have opened for them blessings from the heaven and the earth, but they belied (the Messengers). So, We took them (with punishment) for what they used to earn (polytheism and crimes, etc.). (Al-A’raf 7:96)”.
Natural Disasters: Punishment or Test from God?
There are evils caused by human beings and there are natural disasters. There are sufferings for individuals and there are those that involve many people. Sometimes, natural disasters are very intense and crush even the innocent or apparently good noble pious people living in the affected area. An intriguing question can baffle anyone like me who has poor understanding of Allome Quran and Usoole Hadith, will these obedient people get reward of Allah SWT on the Day of Judgment for the affliction they faced? Allah SWT has warned in the holy Quran about such trials and tribulations which don’t hit specifically disobedient people. Allah SWT says: “And fear the Fitnah (affliction and trial, etc.) which affects not in particular (only) those of you who do wrong (but it may afflict all the good and the bad people) and know that Allah is Severe in punishment. (Al-Anfal 8:25
Allah SWT has also narrated the incidents of different tribes and people who were hit by natural disasters. The question remains why Allah allows suffering which involves even noble, pious obedient servants too. Obedience to God’s commands is the true sign of your love for God, and the only way you can know if you are obeying God is by knowing his word. Bible Verses talk about obedience and help Christians learn how you can love him. Study and memorize Scriptures about obeying God. Biblic verse, PSA 43:1,%2:9 speaks ,”Judge me, O God, And plead my cause against a nation not pious, From a man of deceit and perverseness Thou dost deliver me.As Muslims we believe that Allah is wise and everything that Allah does is right, just, and fair. We must submit and surrender to His will. The Qur'an has not given us all the details about Allah's will, but it has enlightened us with the guidance that is useful and sufficient for us. In Quran chapter Surah Al-Mu'minun, Allah says, “then did you think that We created you without purpose, and that you would not be returned to us?” Exalted is Allah, the True King! There is no god 'worthy of worship' except Him, the Lord of the Honourable Throne. Whoever invokes, besides Allah, another god - for which they can have no proof they will surely find their penalty with their Lord. Indeed, the disbelievers will never succeed. Say, 'O Prophet,' “My Lord! Forgive and have mercy, for You are the best of those who show mercy.” (115-118)
The problem of the existence of evil in this world is a complex one and there is no one simple answer for it. There are several points that we must keep in our mind to understand this issue: However, we must keep in mind that only Prophets of Allah, who had access to the Revelation (wahi), could inform us whether a disaster was a punishment of Allah or not. After the coming of the Last Prophet Muhammad - peace and blessings of Allah be upon him- no one has access to any new Divine Revelation and hence no one is allowed to say that a particular disaster or difficulty is the punishment of God to a person or to a group as many of ignorant had attached earthquake which hit Turkey and Syria recently as punishment From Allah the Almighty.
Suffering can also be a test and trial for some people. Allah allows some people to suffer to test their patience and steadfastness. Even Allah's Prophets and Messengers were made to suffer. Prophet Ayyub (AS) is mentioned in the Qur'an as a Prophet who was very patient. Good people sometimes suffer but their sufferings heal others and bring goodness to their communities. People learn lessons from their good examples. “Be sure We shall test you with something of fear and hunger, some loss in goods or lives or the fruits (of your toil), but give glad tidings to those who patiently persevere. Who say, when afflicted with calamity: "To Allah we belong, and to Him is our return" They are those on whom (descend) blessings from their Lord, and Mercy, and they are the ones that receive guidance. (Al-Baqarah 2:155-157).Whenever we encounter suffering, we should ask ourselves, "Have we broken any law of Allah?" Let us study the cause of the problem and use the corrective methods. “Could it be a punishment?" Let us repent and ask forgiveness and reform our ways. "Could it be a test and trial for us?" Let us work hard to pass this test with patience if we are suffering; or with charity and kindness if we see others are in difficulty. The world, however, is not all evil. Beside all these negative things still goodness is the rule and evil is the exception. Virtue is the norm and sin is the aberration. Suffering for some people could be a test for others who did not suffer. Whether we understand or not the reason why some people went through a disaster, our responsibility is to help them. When we see a person who is sick, poor or needy, or when we see a whole community gone through some disaster, actually we are also tested by Allah. It is wrong to leave them alone saying that "if Allah wanted, He would have saved them." Allah mentions with disapproval the saying of some people: And when they are told, "Spend of (the bounties) with which Allah has provided you, Sufferings occur to teach us that we must adhere to Allah's natural and moral laws. Sufferings are sometimes to punish those who violate Allah's natural or moral laws. Suffering of the righteous people also becomes a healing and liberation for others. Those who patiently bear their pain and suffering are also promised great blessings from Allah. Sufferings of some people are a test for other people's commitment to human values and charity. In the suffering of those people our faith and charity are tested. When we see a person in pain and in difficulty, we should pay extra attention. It is possible that Allah is there to see what our response is. Believers face the sufferings with prayers, repentance, and good deeds.Allah is Ever Well Acquainted with what you do" (Al Qura’an4:135).
Allah the Almighty has prescribed ordinances, which should not be neglected. He has outlined some limits which should not be contravened and has forbidden some things which He deemed inviolable. If a believer doesn’t have correct religious knowledge, the probability that his steps may wander aside is high, and he easily can be deviated by Satan towards the dark alleys of unlawful things and temptations. Finally, where does that standard of morality come from? If only we could look through the horizon of morality and accountability that awaits us beyond this life, we can be truthful with compassion by realizing that we all come from the same source, and we are destined to return to the same source. When we allow ourselves to be microscopically honest with our truths, I love the truth... your truth... my truth.... but I always try to hear it. Fair enough, why can't we tell the truth without making a,“turn round ”attitude In this world, almost without exception, we must learn to work together without”Tarangari,”in mutual trust ,respect as teams. Are we all really that open minded these days, or do we just say we are too. Promising are Things We Hope For, Things We Hope In. May Allah keep us on the right path. May Allah guide us in our difficult ethical and moral decisions.\ameen.

RAMADAN- The Spiritual Laundry
RAMADAN- The Spiritual Laundry
ARE YOU PREPARED?
The Road to Salvation: Repentance is the Key. Ramadan is a few days away, let us reflect on our lives and prepare our hearts and minds for the upcoming spiritual journey ahead.GAWAH EXPRESS 19TH MARCH2023
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------.
Repentance is cure to guilt;
ALLAH Almighty has made human beings weak; they need to be guided and are prone to making mistakes and committing sins. Some do so out of ignorance of the laws set by Allah while; yet there are some, who even though blessed by knowledge, are led to sins because of their desires, emotions, or the conditions around them. When a person sins and realizes that he has done something wrong he is overcome by remorse and an overwhelming feeling of guilt. If not dealt with in the correct manner, these feelings of guilt can greatly affect one’s self-esteem, may weigh him down and make him lose interest in doing good deeds. Fortunately, one of the many treasures of Islam, is that Allah doesn’t leave His servants to rot in their remorse and guilt, once they realize their sin. Mentioned as Al-Ghafoor (the most forgiving) in more than 90 places in the Glorious Qur’an, He offers every sinner chances of redemption and repentance. He says: “Say, ‘O My servants who have transgressed against themselves (by sinning), do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful’.” (Qur’an, 39:53) Praise be to Allah Who has created time and has made some times ,days ,dates, nights and months better than others, when rewards are multiplied many times, as a mercy towards His slaves. Even if a person commits sin time after time, his sin is forgiven every time if he follows his sin with repentance – if his repentance each time is sincere. This encourages them to do more righteous deeds and makes them more eager to worship Him, so that the Muslim renews his /her efforts to gain a greater share of reward, prepare him/herself for death and supply him/herself in readiness for the Day of Judgment. Indeed, Allah is the Most Merciful and Most Kind. He gives respite even to the worst of sinners so that they realize their mistakes and turn back to Him.
Ramadan is the holiest month in the Islamic calendar. It is a time when Muslims around the world fast from dawn until sunset, refrain from any form of worldly indulgence, and dedicate themselves to spiritual purification and self-reflection. The preparation for Ramadan is an important aspect of the observance of this holy month. The practice of fasting from dawn to dusk is central to this Muslim holy month and its purpose is to develop God-consciousness, or Allah's awareness ("Taqwa" in Arabic). "It's the one thing that God asks of us. And that's why Ramadan is so special, it is actually a month of cleansing your sins.
Ramadan month holds significant religious and spiritual importance,it is a time of reflection, self-discipline, and strengthening one's relationship with Allah. As the month of Ramadan approaches, Muslims begin to prepare themselves mentally, physically, and spiritually for this sacred month.
The preparation for Ramadan begins long before the actual month begins. It is important to mentally prepare oneself for the upcoming month. Setting goals helps to keep one focused and motivated during the month of Ramadan. This involves making a firm intention to fast, understanding the significance of the month, and setting goals for oneself. Another important aspect of preparing for Ramadan is setting goals for oneself. These goals can be spiritual, physical, or personal. For example, a spiritual goal could be to read the Quran every day during Ramadan. A personal goal could be to quit a bad habit, such as smoking or gossiping. Holding one, s soul into account preparation also involves reflecting on one's past mistakes and seeking forgiveness from Allah. Ramadan is a time of spiritual reflection, prayer, and fasting. Fasting during Ramadan is an obligation for all Muslims who are physically able to do so, it is considered one of the Five Pillars of Islam. The fast begins at dawn and ends at sunset, and during this time, Muslims abstain from food, drink, and other physical pleasures. It is a time to cleanse the slate , strengthen faith, and connect with Allah (God). The preparation for Ramadan is an essential part of the observance of this holy month. It is a time to reflect on one's spirituality, set goals, and make changes to set new direction in one's life. The preparation for Ramadan begins in the month before, known as Sha'ban. During this month, Muslims prepare themselves physically and spiritually for the fast ahead. They also make arrangements to ensure they have enough food, water, and other necessities to sustain themselves during the month of Ramadan.
Physically preparing for Ramadan is equally important. Muslims who plan to fast need to prepare their bodies for the month-long fast. The physical preparation for Ramadan involves ensuring that the body is in good health and ready for the fast. Muslims should consult with their healthcare provider to ensure that they are physically fit to fast. They should also make sure they are getting enough rest, eating healthy foods, and staying hydrated. Spiritual preparation for Ramadan is equally important. Muslims should take time to reflect on their relationship with Allah (God) and make an effort to strengthen their faith. They should read the Quran and other religious texts, attend religious gatherings, and make an effort to engage in acts of kindness and charity. Among the most important aspects of preparing for Ramadan, Muslims aim to strengthen their relationship with Allah during this month, and spiritual preparation is key to achieving this goal. During Ramadan, Muslims should make the most of this sacred time to seek spiritual purification. They should also try to be kind and compassionate towards others, especially those who are less fortunate. Try to share the food especially at “Iftar “, or “suhoor,” which earns huge rewards. Muslims should use this blessed time to reflect on their behaviour and make changes that will improve their lives and the lives of those around them. It is a great opportunity to practice self-discipline and to shun bad habits.
In conclusion, preparing for Ramadan is a multifaceted process that involves mental, physical, and spiritual preparation. It is important to set goals, plan ahead, and seek knowledge about Islam during this time. Muslims aim to strengthen their relationship with Allah during this month, and preparation is key to achieving this goal. By preparing oneself for Ramadan, one can ensure a successful and fulfilling month of fasting and spiritual growth. Fasting during Ramadan is a test of patience and self-control.

From Fusion to confusion, why can’t Muslims have unified calendar to avoid moon sighting controversy
The issue of the Islamic calendar and moon sighting controversy is a complex one that has been debated for centuries. Muslims follow a lunar calendar, which is based on the sighting of the new moon, and this can lead to differences in the timing of important religious events such as Ramadan and Eid. There are several reasons why Muslims have not been able to achieve a unified calendar, and I will discuss some of these reasons below. Like so many other years, Muslims in Kashmir once again were confused as to when to start fasting during Ramadan. Fasting of Ramadan was actually to be observed for two days. Can the First of Ramadan 1444 be 23rd March (UAE , Saudi Arabia, Pakistan ); 24 the March (India etc ).Yes, it’s that time of the Islamic festivals again when Muslims frantically call each other, asking: “What did the TV /local Grand Mufti announce?”, “Did they see the moon yet?”, “Has moon been sighted….where ,” and the single most effective question that seals the fate of one’s own fast, “What are YOU going to do?”.
Out of all the symbols that Muslims could have chosen to symbolize the unity of community, it is indeed ironic that they chose the appearance of Hilal (crescent) which for many signifies the greatest manifestation of division amongst Muslims. Some intentionally provocative questions are: Why are the Islamic dates in such a mess? Which convention should Muslims use to determine the beginning and ending of Islamic months? Why can’t Muslims have a unified World Islamic calendar? “It is extremely unfortunate, not to say utterly embarrassing, that the Muslim people, who led the world for a millennium in every scientific discipline, developed the scientific method itself and taught science and rationality to the West, are still in a state of chaos over a relatively simple matter of science and Shari’ah, i.e., the lunar calendar.
The controversy around moon sighting arises from the fact that there is no universally accepted method for determining the beginning of the Islamic lunar month. Some Muslims rely on local sightings of the crescent moon to determine the start of a new month, while others follow astronomical calculations to determine the beginning of the month. This has led to disagreement and confusion among Muslims around the world and has prevented the establishment of a unified Islamic calendar.
Different Interpretations of Moon Sighting;
The Islamic calendar, also known as the Hijri calendar, is a lunar calendar based on the phases of the moon. This presents a challenge for Muslims around the world who wish to celebrate Islamic holidays and events on the same day. One of the main reasons for the lack of a unified Islamic calendar is the differing interpretations of moon sighting. According to Islamic tradition, the physical sighting of the new moon marks the beginning of a new month in the lunar calendar. However, there is disagreement among Muslims about what constitutes a valid sighting. Some Muslims require that the new moon be physically sighted with the naked eye, while others accept sightings made with telescopes or other instruments. Additionally, some Muslim scholars hold that a sighting in one region should be accepted for the entire global Muslim community, while others believe that each region should have its own sighting.
The other factors contributing to the disagreement over moon sighting is the interpretation of Islamic teachings. Some Muslims believe that the sighting of the crescent moon is a necessary requirement for the start of a new month, based on a hadith (a saying of the Prophet Muhammad). However, other Muslims argue that technological advancements have made it possible to accurately predict the start of the lunar month using astronomical calculations, and that reliance on moon sighting is not necessary.
These differing interpretations can lead to confusion and disagreement among Muslims, particularly when it comes to the timing of important religious events such as Ramadan and Eid. For example, in some years, some Muslim countries may begin Ramadan a day earlier or later than others, based on differences in moon sighting.
Political and Geographical Differences
Another factor that contributes to the lack of a unified Islamic calendar is political and geographical differences. The Muslim world is vast and diverse, with Muslims living in different countries with different political and cultural contexts. Some Muslim countries may have their own unique traditions and practices, which can lead to differences in how the lunar calendar is calculated and observed. Our common sense demands that the prayer times in the USA and Saudi Arabia must be different in the earth which is a globe; America has night when India has day. So the times must be different everywhere. In an age when we can measure the properties of sub-atomic particles of moon sighting on the 29th of each month.
In addition, some countries may have their own political or religious agendas, which can influence their approach to moon sighting and the Islamic calendar. For example, some Muslim countries may want to assert their authority or independence by adopting their own lunar calendar, rather than following a global standard.
Lack of Consensus Among Muslim Scholars
Another challenge in achieving a unified Islamic calendar is the lack of consensus among Muslim scholars. While there are many learned scholars who have written extensively about moon sightings and the Islamic calendar, there is no single authority that all Muslims follow. Different scholars may have different interpretations of Islamic law and tradition, which can lead to differing opinions on moon sighting and the calendar. No Muslim disputes that a crescent (Hilal) determines the beginning of an Islamic month. The Islamic Law states if one person (two for Eid) sees the new moon/crescent i.e. the visible new moon, then begins the new month. This is the Sunnah, and this is practiced by most Muslims all over the world and has been the practice since 1400 plus years, from when The Prophet (PBUH) himself established the new month in this way.
Allah the exalted commands: “So he who from amongst you should witness the month should fast it” (Qur’an 2;185). The term witnessed is used meaning we must sight the moon. This convention is always universally applicable and accessible to all Muslims throughout the world. From the Fiqhi standpoint, one may begin the Islamic month on “local” sighting (Ikhtilaf al-Matali-when each locality is to insure that they cite the moon themselves and decide according to that the beginning of month) or Ittihad al-Matale’ based on sighting anywhere in the Muslim World (the case when crescent is sighted in one Islamic locality, then all localities are to follow it, so long as they share part of night). Although different, both positions are valid Islamic Fiqh positions. Muslims scholars have adopted different juristic positions as astronomically some data are definitive and conclusive (i.e. the time of birth of the Crescent (new moon) and timing of rise of set of moon and sun), but determining the visibility of the Crescent is not as definitive or conclusive; rather it is dependent upon several factors, including the available recordings around the world. Even though scholars have stated that the judge (Mufti/Qazi) does have legal jurisdiction when it comes to deciding whether or not to accept and or to deny claims of moon sighting.
Moreover, some scholars may have personal or institutional biases that can influence their opinions on the matter. For example, a scholar who is affiliated with a particular mosque or school of thought may be more likely to adopt that mosque or school's approach to moon sighting and the calendar.
Lack of Standardization and Coordination
Another factor that contributes to the lack of a unified Islamic calendar is the lack of standardization and coordination among Muslim communities. While some organizations and institutions have attempted to develop a standardized approach to moon sighting and the calendar, there is no single body that has the authority to enforce such a standard.
Moreover, there is often a lack of coordination among different Muslim communities, which can lead to confusion and disagreement. For example, some mosques or Islamic centers may rely on their own moon sighting committee to determine the beginning of a new month, while others may rely on a regional or national committee. This lack of coordination can lead to differences in the timing of important religious events. Despite these challenges, there have been efforts to establish a unified Islamic calendar. In 1978, the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) convened a conference to discuss the issue of moon sighting, and proposed the use of astronomical calculations to determine the start of the lunar month. However, this proposal was met with resistance from some Muslim scholars and organizations, who argued that moon sighting was necessary for religious reasons.
There have been efforts to use a combination of moon sighting and astronomical calculations to establish a unified Islamic calendar. The Fiqh Council of North America, which is affiliated with ISNA, has proposed a methodology for determining the start of the lunar month that considers both moon sighting and astronomical calculations. This methodology has been adopted by some Muslim communities in North America, but has not been universally accepted.
Historical and Cultural Factors
In some Muslim countries, there may be a tradition of relying on physical moon sightings with the naked eye, while in others there are historical and cultural factors that contribute to the lack of a unified Islamic calendar. Islam has a long and rich history, with many different cultures and traditions that have developed over time. These cultural and historical factors can influence how Muslims approach moon sighting and the calendar. There are three main groups: 1. Those who ‘blindly’ follow Saudi Arabia, 2. Those who follow the concept of the birth of the new moon and 3. Those who follow the concept of the sighting, visibility of the new moon. Those who follow the Saudi / Egyptian dates are unwilling to accept that the Saudi dates cannot be based on a ‘sighted’ moon there, though they cannot see the same moon in North America 8-11 hours later. Most people who call for a global sighting do not understand moon phases. People in the Western hemisphere can usually see the moon first. And since it is already the NEXT day in the Middle East, then it is impossible to start. If the Muslims in the Polynesian Islands see the moon first, will you be willing to accept it? How about if we see it in America? Do you think the Middle East will start when we see it? The answers are of course--NO.
Another factor contributing to the controversy is the issue of geographical location. The sighting of the crescent moon can vary based on the location of the observer, as well as weather conditions and other environmental factors. This means that Muslims in different parts of the world may see the crescent moon on different days, leading to differences in the start of the lunar month. Additionally, there are political and cultural factors that can influence moon sighting practices. In some countries, the Government may officially declare the start of the lunar month based on moon sighting, while in others, religious authorities or local communities may have more influence in determining the start of the month. Cultural traditions and customs can also play a role in moon sighting practices, with some communities relying more heavily on local sightings than others.
In conclusion, the controversy over moon sighting and the establishment of a unified Islamic calendar is a complex issue that involves a variety of factors, including interpretation of Islamic teachings, geographical location, political and cultural influences, and technological advancements. While efforts have been made to establish a unified calendar, there is still a lack of consensus among Muslims around the world. Ultimately, the decision of how to determine the start of the lunar month is left up to individual communities and scholars, and may vary based on a variety of factors.

DRUG ADDICTION THE SCOURGE OF SOCIETY. (Substance use disorder & psycho-spiritual therapy) !
DRUG ADDICTION THE SCOURGE OF SOCIETY. (Substance use disorder & psycho-spiritual therapy) !
PREVENT DRUG ABUSE AMONG YOUTH, CHILDREN & TEENS.
Hope is power. Problem of drug addiction in youth requires a multi-pronged comprehensive public health approach that involves Public-private partnerships in education, parental involvement, peer support, positive activities, access to resources, and community involvement.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------GAWAH EXPRESS 9THAPRIL 2023
How Do You Know When Society Is About to Fall Apart?
The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”, the adage holds relevance even today in the current crisis of drug menace affecting our community. The substance abuse in the young generation has assumed alarming dimensions in the valley as per the National Survey on Extent and Pattern of Substance Use in India around 1 million people are using various types of drugs, and among these victims around 70,000 are females. Kashmir has emerged amongst the country’s top-drug-affected regions, ahead of many neighbouring states. We may be reaching a more dangerous point, “My son is Drug Addict, please arrest him otherwise he will get involved in crime”, a helpless father crying over social media in an uploaded video clip by a news channel .Drug abuse has led to a detrimental impact on the traditionally God-fearing community of ours. Drug addicts’ resort to all sorts of crime to pay for their drugs. Drugs remove inhibition and impair judgment egging one on to commit offences and this inflicts damages to the society. Incidences of eve teasing, group clashes, thefts, assault, and impulsive murders like the tragic Sopore incident increase with drug abuse. Apart from affecting financial stability, addiction increases conflicts and causes untold emotional pain for every member of the family.
THE BUCK STOPS WHERE?
Where did it all go wrong? Caught in deep slumber, Kashmiri society is experiencing a moral decline on many fronts and could not pick up early warning signs timely that a family member, friend or loved one, or someone in the neighbourhood is abusing drugs. Harmful effects of not spending quality time with kids. What happens when busy working parents don't spend time with their child? Children who do not get proper attention from parents or whose parents do not spend quality time with them may cope with various behavioural problems including substance abuse. Unarguably, drug abusers often try to conceal their symptoms and downplay their problem. In today’s competitive world, youth face many risks of career or personal or domestic life succumbing to peer pressures of stress. He or she is more vulnerable to developing an addiction if education and upbringing is not appropriate .If timely counselling is not received someone experiments or is exposed to drugs early on. Other risk factors include the availability of substances to a person, his or her economic status, his or her associations and friendship community, poor academic performance, and lack of adult supervision growing up. Responding to these risks before they become problems can be difficult. One of the goals of the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) is to help the public understand the causes of drug abuse and to prevent its onset. Drug abuse has serious consequences in our homes, schools, and communities. Although most youth are in good health, some youths are at an increased risk for behaviour’s that can lead to poor health outcomes, such as high-risk substance use. Most adults who meet the criteria for having a substance use disorder started using substances during their teen and young adult years. When a loved one has a drug problem If you suspect that a friend or family member has a drug problem, here are a few things you can do.
Speak up. Don't wait for your loved one to hit rock bottom! Observe watchfully your loved one's behaviour that have you worried and urge them to seek help. Discovering your child uses drugs can generate fear, confusion, rage and anger. It's important to remain calm when confronting your teen, and to only do so when everyone is sober. Talk to the person about your concerns and offer your help and empathetic support without being judgmental. The earlier addiction is treated, the better. Explain your concerns and make it clear that your concern comes from a place of love. It's important that your teen feels you are supportive. The challenge for parents is to distinguish between the normal, often volatile, ups and downs of the teen years and the red flags of substance abuse. Don’t hesitate to seek professional help for early signs of risk. Sometimes, teen drug use is out of parental control. Teens may develop intentions to use drugs, and may develop a reliance on drugs, despite parental involvement. If this happens, know that it is not a sign of failure. It is, however, a call to action. Early intervention is key to getting a teen healthy and staying sober. It can prevent dangerous consequences like addiction and overdose. If a teen is already addicted, professional intervention can help him or her through recovery, minimizing the risk of long-term consequences. An adolescent or young adult treatment centre is most equipped to handle and treat the unique needs of young people battling drug abuse and addiction.
Prevention is always better than cure. Drug addiction is a major public health concern, and preventing drug use and addiction in youth is critical for reducing the overall impact of drug addiction on individuals, families, and communities. While addiction can affect people of all ages, youth are particularly vulnerable to the negative consequences of drug use, including addiction, physical and mental health problems, and social and academic problems. There are several measures that can be taken to prevent drug addiction in youth. Prevention efforts for drug addiction in youth are aimed at reducing risk factors that increase the likelihood of drug use and addiction and promoting protective factors that reduce the risk of drug use and addiction.
Islam’s Prohibitions – A Great Blessing.
The community of ours, especially the youth, are facing many diversional problems and temptations that were not available previously. This is particularly problematic for us as a community traditionally known for a modest God-fearing loving population. The youth are easily distracted by activities such as addiction to TV, video games, gambling, rave parties , and addiction to drugs. Majority of our youth belong to faith Islam—a religion which emphasizes purity of civilized human life. Purification is part of the faith that works to produce individuals who abide by Islamic law. The problem of drug abuse has been viewed seriously in recent years around the world. Therefore, prevention is very important to prove that education on faith can solve various social problems. Emotion is a reaction to stimuli and has a driving force to the treatment. It is a bodily and psychological response that affects the daily lives of individuals and society. If not given adequate attention to the problem of drug addiction, one will risk doing aggressive behaviour (as we observed in the gruesome Sopore Murder tragedy) due to expressions that cannot fit in, are not accepted in the social and family norms, and the reaction pressure inside the individual self . Therefore, people should take the initiative to help reshape the personality of those who have problems with drug addiction based on the Islamic model.
Islam’s View of the Self. The soul commanding evil grips the individual in a state of forgetfulness. Addiction, and indeed, all human infractions stem from such a state, where the human being is heedless of the purpose of life, heedless of the Creator, and of the Day when all human beings will be held accountable for their actions. It is this state of forgetfulness that the individual must strive to overcome and work progressively towards a state of awareness. The goal of every Muslim is to be aware of the stage of his or her own soul, and to strive to reach the stage of tranquillity and peace that can only come about through a disciplined life in obedience to God. The Glorious Qur’an says:“And be ye not like those who forgot Allah, and He made them forget their own souls! Such are the rebellious transgressors!” [Al-Quran 59:19] if Our Khatibs must take time off from infighting and use the pulpit to arouse social awareness in the community it could impact social consciousness to combat drug menace.
Psycho-spiritual therapy;
Drug problem is caused by failing to appreciate the religious guide in life. It makes people fail to distinguish between right and wrong. There are various methods involved with drug rehabilitation. Among psycho-spiritual therapy that focuses on methods of prayer, study, religious counselling, and Islamic studies classes. In addition to religious approach repentance, remembrance, fasting, prayer and care for manners in treating individuals who are involved in drug abuse. The fact that addictions of various types have grown into enormous social problems that are threatening not only individuals and families, but entire societies is clear. Addictions, in fact, are the scourge of human civilization, and the urgency of making a global effort to eradicate them is more critical than ever. In overcoming addiction therefore, one is required to shun heedlessness and feel remorse for having allowed one’s soul to be controlled by one’s lower desires. For others who, although self-aware to some extent, do succumb momentarily to the evil-inciting soul, the remembrance of the Divine and His commandments are often sufficient to restore the balance and quickly exit the state of heedlessness. For those who, while fulfilling the necessities of human life, are firmly rooted in achieving success in the hereafter, the temptations of a transgression only serve to spur them on in their spiritual pursuits. O Allah, I seek refuge with You lest I should stray or be led astray, or slip (i.e. to commit a sin unintentionally) or be tripped, or oppress or be oppressed, or behave foolishly or be treated foolishly.
VISION FOR THE FUTURE.
Addiction is a complex problem that affects every aspect of your life. Overcoming addiction requires reaching out for support and making changes to the way you live, deal with problems, and relate to others. Recovery is within your reach but don't try to go it alone; it's very easy to get discouraged and rationalize “just one more.” Whether you choose to go to rehab, rely on self-help programs, get therapy, or take a self-directed treatment approach, support is essential. Drug addiction among youth is a serious problem that can have lifelong consequences. Youth with substance use disorders also experience higher rates of physical and mental illnesses, diminished overall health and well-being, and potential progression to addiction.
Prevention measures are key in reducing drug addiction in youth. Prevention science has made great progress in recent years. Many prevention interventions are being tested in “real-world” settings so they can be more easily adapted for community use. Scientists are studying a broader range of populations and topics. Apart from the role of the state in curbing drug trafficking and opening more drug rehabilitation centres throughout the state ,Govt can’t do it alone and all NGOs should participate in drug rehabilitation programmes for preventing drug addiction in youth is essential to ensure that they have a healthy and productive future. Parents, schools, and community organizations can all play a role in promoting positive peer relationships. Parents can encourage their children to participate in extracurricular activities and social groups where they can form positive relationships with peers. Schools can promote positive peer relationships by providing opportunities for students to work together on projects and activities. Community organizations can also provide opportunities for youth to form positive relationships with peers through youth groups and other social activities.

THE SIN OF SILENCE.
Towards Building a Moral Society…
GAWAH EXPRESS 23 APRIL2023
THE SIN OF SILENCE.
“All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing”. The siege is within…-IS IT WORTH? Mute spectators or change activists? Who are you? This is truly secondary when it comes to speaking truth. -Should we wait for the change or change ourselves? What will our excuse be tomorrow before Allah? I would like to stress the importance of the undermining of our noble values in the relative security of our daily life.DR FIAZ MAQBOOL FAZILI
----------------------------------------
The term ‘Last Day’ in reality stands for the ‘Last Age’, or the age which would culminate in the end of history—Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) prophesied of the Last Age that: “People would follow a way of life other than mine, and give guidance other than mine”…“I fear for my people ….”…“Before the Last Hour there will be great liars, so beware of them. The time will be years of confusion. People will believe a liar and disbelieve one who tells the truth. People will distrust one who is trustworthy, and trust one who is treacherous. (Ahmad) This is an important message that needs to be heard. The Last Hour will not be established until they will remain those people who will neither be aware of the virtues and never prevent the vices. (Ahmad))
Moral decay and Kashmir have unfortunately become synonymous with growing crimes, increased social evils and moral waywardness becoming norm as the education on morality is prolonging so is the moral decay of the Kashmir society. Year, 2022-2023 shall be remembered as a year of social reckoning, as truth became a casualty in the trials of morality. Son kills mother- father kills daughter, a predator beheads young girl chops her into pieces, drug misuse and addiction has touched all-time high, heinous crimes previously unheard in Kashmir are now taking place on regular basis and scandals related to immorality too are surfacing during Ramadan .The basic cause of rising crimes and moral decay in our society is lack of proper monitoring of children by their parents and school teachers as they show no interest in monitoring activities of their kids. As a result we witness our younger generation going towards wrong activities. We need to be accountable as family leaders and everyone should fulfil his role and then we can save Kashmir society from further destruction.”
When truth is a casualty, democracy receives collateral damage. My plea is for truth. I believe we have to find ways to restore. Everything is not ‘okay’ in our land, and we are about to reap from what we have sown. The wrong sides of Obscenity , liberalism and modernity has led to drastic changes in the way we look upon morality in our society, “chalta hai;hota hai; an amoral escapist attitude has culminated in our lives The need for noble purposes in an evil world is yearning for courage to stand up for our most noble values, to defend them when they are threatened. If people are not reminded of the things which they should be cautious in Islam,’’ the day is not far off when our inaction will allow prohibited acts and customs to be justified as a part of our culture. The recurring incidents of the moral degradation in our traditionally modest society, many of us are disturbed and frightened. Why? Because, like it or not we still are part and parcel of this society, and we cannot choose to opt out of it so simplistically. A sizable number may indeed be part of the "silent majority", although it is debatable, if all are such a homogeneous whole. We are quite at ease in compartmentalizing our lives such that the governance of moral values of our society or our religious doctrine is neatly delegated to a particular class who have been opting for silence every now and again. So long as we are left well alone to pursue our own economic and social livelihood, we can live with that. Because of this general apathetic attitude, we prefer to be labelled as apolitical. Hence, they prefer the muted response of the so-called "silent majority", as if the unspoken thoughts of the masses were a show of unanimity to support whichever side they choose to affiliate with. Surely one can discern the fallacy of such a tautological argument. -that we are passive, and a submissive person is therefore an established fact. But like it or not, we the valleyities will sooner or later have to realize and get released from this mental block, nurture our own socio religious awareness to preserve at least the values which identify us with our faith.
When does silence become a sin? Moral decline begins when transcendent moral values, which have proven to be beneficial over time, are discarded in preference to various ideas which man finds more conducive to achieving ultimately destructive lustful desires like Alcoholism, moral corruption etc ,to observe silence on such occasions while your friend, neighbour or family member is scouting Allah's commandments taking the devil's part, assisting him in his evil work by indulging in all deadly lusts; so they`'` commit grievous sins in their amours. In a true Islamic society , a person is not likely to ever reach the point of dependence. Friends, family and neighbors will not just look away while a person destroys himself, his family and his society. Muslims are supposed to be very involved in correcting wrongs that they see. Islam is a very community-oriented faith. There is no place for an individual to do what he wants to do, if it hurts others. And by hurting yourself through evil deeds, you inadvertently hurt others and ultimately the society.
Actually, all this is not surprising. The aspects of this social deterioration we see happening so prevalently today are clearly related in the Qur’an, and predicted by the Prophet (pbuh) fourteen centuries ago. Moral degradation, and all the various problems associated with it, are the inevitable result of human beings’ forgetting Allah and the purposes of their creation, and abandoning religion and its spiritual values. Allah's Messenger (saw) described the End Times as “When people suffer strife and social upheaval” (Ramuz al-Ahadith). We the valleyites are generally a discreet and quietly compliant lot. Many of us would like to live unobtrusive, encapsulated and secluded lives. Many believe that getting involved in any public-spirited endeavour particularly socioreligious ones, is restricted to a particular class of clergy. They believe that socioeconomic and religious matters don't mix, and that the potential repercussions are too heavy a price to pay. Fear of the many unknowns keeps many people from speaking out. And when they do, many prefer the safer choice of echoing sentiments which they believe would help maintain the status quo and not raise controversies and follow a devilish whisper "Don't speak unless you can improve the silence..."which temporarily affected me also and clearly undermines the religious dictum that during times of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act. The Qur'aan and the hadith have however informed us about various signs which will occur prior to Qiyamah and which will be indicative of the closeness of the event. It is indeed very unfortunate to note that despite having before us the various warnings and signs regarding Qiyamah which have been mentioned by none other than Prophet (Saw), that evil must be removed, whether by your hand or the hand of someone else, If that is not possible then it must be done by your tongue (by your speaking out), and you should not worry whether they listen to you or turn away from you; all you have to do is convey the message. Allah may sow the seeds of guidance in the heart of one of them because of your words, but the Satan may also suggest to you that you should forget about denouncing them on the basis that they will not listen to you – so beware of that. Some people may have some kind of excuse, each person knows best about himself and whether his excuses are genuine or false. On the Day of Resurrection all matters will become clear. It is not necessary to be in a position of authority in order to change evil actions by one's hand, or to be a scholar in order to change them by one's tongue, rather it is sufficient to be able to change them provided that that does not result in a greater evil than the one that you are denouncing. It is sufficient for you to know that this is evil according to sharee’ah, so you denounce it by speaking.
Every one of us has the duty to prevent others from going astray, and don’t consider any sin which you see to be insignificant, as seeing a sin constantly, the hearts become devoid of the light of differentiation and rejection. When evils frequent the heart and when they are repeatedly seen by the eyes, their seriousness and their denunciation disappear from the heart to the extent that a person sees them, but he does not even consider them to be evils and he does not even think that they are sins. So Silence becomes a sin when we remain silent in the face of evil, we are turning our backs on the very essence of our Prophet’s (pbuh) teachings, that we the Muslims should act as responsible catalysts of change by leading the way forwards towards a moral society .We believe that everyone can play a role in trying to shape our collective future. But we have to start one little bit by one little bit. We can and must believe that we can make a difference, even if it is a small one.

IKHLASS- A ROAD TO PARADISE. PURIFICATION TO PERFECTION--.
IKHLASS- A ROAD TO PARADISE. PURIFICATION TO PERFECTION--.
GAWAH EXPRESS 25JULY2023
We the Believers have huge responsibilities towards Allah swt and His creation, having been gifted with a guidebook like The Holy Qur’an and a Prophet and an ideal person to follow like Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). “Indeed, in the Messenger of Allah (Muhammad SAW) you have a good example to follow for him who hopes in (the Meeting with) Allah and the Last Day and remembers Allah much.” (Quran SurahAl-Ahzab: 21)
High moral standard is said to be a core pillar which ensures prosperity of individuals and the society generally. Man, therefore, is born with a moral sense which clearly enables him to differentiate between right and wrong, good and bad. That is why it is not out of place to say a society, shrouded in immoral acts, is certain to breed wayward and unscrupulous elements. In order to actually submit to good morality, one must speak the truth, keep promises, respect family ties, and help the poor, less privileged and weak ones. This possibly has not been unconnected with the fact that the Muslims took their guidance from the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W2.). Sadly enough, these moral qualities that ought to be imbibed by all and sundry diminish or were drastically absent among the Muslim society today.
Immoral Acts and their Resultant Effect among the Society:
Character moulding is a collective enterprise that involves many people in the society. These include parents, teachers, well-to-do and religious leaders as well as other members of the public. Each of these groups has a critical role in ensuring that members of the society become good citizens so as to be able to contribute to meaningful development in their respective areas.
Isn’t it our moral duty to put reminders to all our brothers and sisters involving particularly those vulnerable youth to substance abuse, and immorality through our interactive inspiring posts, using modern technology and social media? . The word ikhlas denotes purifying our motives and intentions so that our actions are not tainted by anything other than seeking the pleasure of Allah. Ikhlas or sincerity is the first key that opens the heart to receive the mercy of Allah Almighty. In fact, the acceptance of one’s deeds depends on one’s purity of intention, which in turn depends on the level of sincerity in one’s heart. With sincerity, a person can attain the highest ranks in the sight of Allah Almighty, make the most of his or her deeds, and even be rewarded for righteous deeds that he or she was not able to perform. The path towards Allah (swt) and road towards paradise is illuminated when a person recognizes the central place of Allah in his /her life and strives to develop him/herself accordingly.
Today, Believers seem to have lost the true spirit, meaning and practice. The Divine guidance has been forgotten, and earthly traditions have replaced the moral norms in our traditional God fearing modest society. Disunity and even hatred exists among various Muslim populations especially religious preachers, scholar’s or guides divided into sects involved in fighting , verbal duels in race for nowhere - who’s better Muslim. Some Muslims, for example, are falling for the gross materialism of this world, prioritising publicity (riyaa kaari) rather than working at ground roots with sincerity above self or bias of sectarian beliefs.. The obligation of applying the principles and lifestyle of our beloved Prophet saw in one’s life and in one’s society has been forgotten. There should be a clear message that the correct belief must be firmly implanted in the heart before any true fruits are to be expected. It is the true Iman and Aqedah that allows the person to internalize the Quran and apply its injunctions sincerely and properly, by correcting one’s Aqedah or one’s belief system, to see the sunnah practices around us, in our life style, and day to day work dealings. “Has not the time come for the hearts of those who believe (in the Oneness of Allâh Islamic Monotheism) to be affected by Allâh’s reminder (this Qur’an), and that which has been revealed of the truth, lest they become as those who received the Scriptures before, and the term was prolonged for them and so their hearts were hardened? And many of them were Fâsiqûn (the rebellious, the disobedient to Allâh).” (Quran Ch; Al-Hadeed :016) .
One of the main reasons Muslims today find it very hard to master their actions and fall into array is a direct result of lack of serious strive against one’s soul. The Quran teaches us that neglecting to hold the soul to account may lead to serious consequences, the corruption of soul and the heart. Allah (swt) has made our souls such that if they were not fought against and controlled, they command their possession to commit evil and obscene, drug addiction, alcoholism and adultery, crime, corruption and fitnah. Hazrat Umar ibni Khattab (RA) used to say, “call your souls to account before you are called to account and weigh your actions before you are weighed(on the day of judgement) for that will make the accountability easier for your tomorrow if you call yourselves to account today.”Tazkiyah The term nearest in meaning in self-development in the Quran vocabulary is;tazkiyah. Tazkiyah means purification and refers to the cleansing of human self from all that is unwholesome and undesirable. Success and happiness in this world and Hereafter depend on tazkiyah, the purification and nurturing of our personality. The Quran states that true success is only reserved for those who seek to purify themselves; ` Indeed he succeeded who purifies his own self `[Quran Ash shams;09]. Today when we are facing technology explosion, our youth has to divide his/her time between futuristic career work ups, coaching centers, TV, videos, shopping malls, motor bike stunts, speeding cars, fashion trends, cell phones and the internet. The youth of today is techno-savvy, very knowledgeable regarding modern technology, but is actually illiterate when it comes to knowledge and practice about the Deen or about morality, ethics, discipline, character and spirituality- a modern version of jahliya a new age of ignorance; Isn’t it our moral duty to put reminders to all our brothers and sisters, our children on right and wrong, honesty and corruption, by using modern technology with main focus on youth vulnerable to substance abuse .If man wastes these blessings and bounties without taking any advantage of them, undoubtedly we will be held responsible for them on the Resurrection Day. Accordingly, we must be aware of our responsibility towards society when we are facing moral decline at its highest. One must feel a responsibility to Allah on the Resurrection Day. Thus Allah, the Almighty, will hold him to account on that Day for the inaction.
Allah (swt ) says in Quran,Surah adh-Dhaariyaat,verse 55,”And remind (by preaching the Qur’ân, O Muhammad[sal-Allâhu 'alayhi wa sallam]), for verily, the reminding profits the believers.]. The Quran and Sunnah remove the darkness of the world. Knowledge is enlightenment. Verily, never will Allah (ST) change a condition of a people unless they change it themselves, with their souls. Only thing we need to develop is “IKHLAAS,’- the quality of performing a deed purely and solely for Allah’s sake. It is obligatory upon everyone and in particular for whether he/she is calling people that he /she intends by his/her knowledge to seek the pleasure of Allah. This is particularly true for the one who is considering himself a worker for the sake of Allah- calling others to faith for the sake of Allah ,enjoining good and prevention of evil for the sake of Allah, usually this point is forgotten as sincere Not necessarily Muslims get so involved in stereo type groups and organizations of faith that they begin working and calling it to their group or their group head rather than calling for the sake of Allah. For the believer, the most coveted goal in life is to seek the pleasure of Allah and then paradise. Our Creator has set this goal for us,: “And surely paradise itis the goal-Quran (an- naziat-4) indeed the next abode it is truly the life(QuranAl-ankabut20).May Allah (swt) guide us and our youth to the straight path.Ameen!
