It’s no ordinary water. Have faith, it can cure your ailments. Writes Dr Faiz Fazili.
The drink which refreshes you instantly even in hot climates is Zam Zam. The only place on earth this mysterious drink comes from is the Zam Zam well in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, barely few meters east of the Ka'bah, the heart of the Hajj pilgrimage. The Prophet (pbuh) said: "The best water upon the earth's face is Zam Zam; it is a nourishing food and a cure for illness."(At-Tabarani). According to Arab historians, the well has been in use for about 4000 years. The well makes the site of a spring that miraculously has emerged from a barren and desolate non-perennial stream where the Prophet Abraham (pbuh), under God's command, had left his wife Hagar and infant son Ishmael (pbuh) in the desperate search for water. Have you ever imagined how such a small well, with a diameter of about 1.46 meter to 2.66 meter, and the depth of about 30 meters quenched the thirst of billions of people from all over the world throughout centuries? However to Muslims, it is no surprise as it is stated in the Qu’ran that the well will continue to provide water to millions of people until the Day of The Judgment nears.  
The miracle of Zam Zam water is well known all over the world. How the Zam Zam well came to being in the middle of a dry desert flowing non-stop is itself a great miracle. When all the other wells around the Makkah vicinity were dried up on many occasions, the Zam Zam well continued  to flow . Zam-Zam is called the power drink because of its ability to satisfy both thirst and hunger. The water was called "Shabba'ah". Modern day scientists who were skeptical towards this miracle water did several tests on it. Scientifically it had been proved in the European Laboratories as well as in Saudi Arabia itself and experts of Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission that the Zam Zam water is scientifically superior to tap water or solar pump water. This was done through analysis and testing. Their research had come up with several discoveries regarding the miracle water being Alkaline in nature. The Zam Zam water can therefore neutralise excess Hydrochloric Acid (HCl) found in the stomach and reduces heartburn and acidity. The contents of the Zam Zam water and other wells water near the vicinity of Makkah are different Iodide, Sulphate, and Nitrate. It contains a higher concentration (200 mg) of calcium, Iodide, Sulphate, Nitrate, fluorides. And higher  contents of macro-nutrients like magnesium(43.7) than surrounding wells. It also has other electrolytes and minerals such as sodium, potassium, Chloride, Sulfur, Iron nitrates, phosphates, copper, etc. Various chemical analyses thus prove that  zam zam water is void of harmful contaminants. What is more astonishing is  the presence of fluoride in the Zam Zam water. As the normal occurrence, only treated water contains fluoride to enable people to drink it safely. This is because fluoride acts as a germicide and stops bacteria and algae from growing. Mind you this water has never been chemically treated or chlorinated. It is colorless and odorless. Even if you keep it for a very long time, it will still remain crystal clear and safe for consumption. An ultraviolet analysis of Zam zam water proved that it is free from bacteria, which assures the preservation of its taste. Zam Zam water is also known to cure many illnesses. Before drinking the water, it is encouraged for the Muslim to read the prayers: "Allahumma innii asaluka ilmanna fi'au warizqau wa'asiau wasyifaan min'kulli daai.”. The verses meant: pray to Allah the exalted  to grant us knowledge and wisdom, widen the space of our earnings be in monetary, food or water and grant us great health and cure of any illness we are having. Zam Zam water has an effect of removing toxins from the body thus making it helpful in speeding the process of curing cancer, food poisoning, burns, arthritis, eczema, thyroid dysfunction, mental confusion, high cholesterol, hypertension, SLE, haemorrhoids and generalised fatigue.
