Never do I argue with a man with a desire to hear him say what is wrong, or to expose him and win victory over him. Whenever I face an opponent in debate I silently pray - O Lord, help him so that truth may flow from his heart and on his tongue, and so that if truth is on my side, he may follow me; and if truth be on his side, I may follow him. The Moral Limits of a civilized society--RACE TO WHERE? - The Dark Side of Valley's Education Culture-“What Isn't for Sale…?

Mere Opinion Mein! The role of civil society in the fight against corruption ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ - RACE TO WHERE? - The Dark Side of Valley's Education Culture. “What Isn't for Sale…? The Moral Limits of a civilized society-- Do we need to reset our moral compass to fight against corruption-? “ dr.fiaz fazili— --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Has corruption overtaken morality in public life”? This is a question that I have grappled with a number of times. Yes, truly speaking very much at the heart of the current “BOPEE scam ,”is a search for a definition of “betrayal of public trust”. The times in which we live are perilous when , almost everything is up for sale “Want to get some work done; grease the palm”.. While we all know corruption has taken deep roots in our polity-- a growing number of corruption scandals should not underscore the devastating exponential effect of current scam in our examination system. Appreciably good work done by honorable Judiciary and investigative agencies.Predictably, there is no dearth of institutions to check corruption at Government level , by putting all burden on Govt machinery we can’t fight against a negative chain effect of “race to where-(corruption)”When corruption defeats the very purpose of education, when institutions fail and integrity subverted by their own custodians there are some things that, due to their nature, should be beyond the markets, should not be bought and sold.To root out corruption in education sector, fighting against shocking “brazen bribery” becomes a collective responsibility for all stake holders be it competitors ,custodians of knowledge (teachers and lecturers),supervisors of examinations, law enforcing agencies and civil society at large. The question that stares us today in the face ; Should we as civil society react differently than what we have been doing in the name of combating this evil all along? We live in the society that endeared adherence to disciplined beliefs. If we did not, we would decay; ruined by the fake “Pirs” or immoral dishonest officials. With, evil consideration of money taking preferences usually depraves oneself of morality,“be consciousless and enjoy “,like wrongful inferences takes encouragement in our society failing to contribute healthily -- Who do we blame for making BOPEE as, “Best Buyers Choice”? People involved have to make very complex choices ,today . Is morality purely a personal matter or a social responsibility? Is there anything money can’t buy?. it has to be the moral limits of our civilized society. We the people should self introspect how civilized society is maintained or lost,;Educate your children well is the first rule of any civilized society as an initiative against corruption? Shun the “ chalta hai',behavior ! a convenient blanket term to cover all this indifference that speaks our mind and society's moral conflict to deal with corruption. I want to beg all you parents, and grandparents, and friends, and teachers, and law enforcement supervisors --you who ,,,, ” Say no to bribes”. Needless to say,“-Needy man is greedy”-- In fight against corruption the danger of falling into temptation of bribery or corrupt practices - What you should watch out for.?. These are the words which must be stuck round everywhere, a clear message from a civilized society to…brokers, fraudester etc .All parents will be held morally responsible by default for the fall of their children's souls if we do not do introspection now. What has really bred this ironically indifferent “chalta hai “attitude a lackadaisical approach to this extent in our conduct in public life? Is it inaction or clean chit in previous scams.. and therefore, essentially, how much you can do about in this situation, need a separate debate.Parents hoping for a good career for their children, willingly and knowingly, despite financial constraints do their best to provide their children all sorts of assistance needed to be good competitors to pursue their career and CET everywhere serve as screening gates for selection process through which our future generation of Doctors, Engineers,Civil services professionals etc and what have you are produced.A moral turpitude and hurtful expose of abuse ,authority and corruption in CET exam has saddened all of us. Evil, unchecked, is a prelude to an institutional collapse which would have 'far-reaching, grave long-term consequences on one of the most important aims of education to respect the merit, honesty , hard work and equal access in competitive examinations particularly for under- privileged class. While children especially from rich and influential parents will live with a notion that they don’t have to perform well , now that their parents ‘ money or influence , will guarantee their success. Now,the medical students at GMC Srinagar and SKIMs medical college admitted through previous CET exam are demanding a thorough probe into the scam, as they feel that it has cast doubts over the noble profession and standard of future doctors. The way forward- Truth to be told; Due to the importance placed on this sensitive competitive exam, there has been a constant demand from the public to keep it transparent and corruption free .Iit seems there has been some sort of overlooking in” profile check” wile selecting a custodian of this sensitive institution. Equally true buyers keep this shoddy business running, they are reason for its existence-they allow cheaters to be in business. This is not to deny that there is something very worrisome about the sell-out of public trust, the scam has left all of us disappointed. Too often the corruption debate and discussions all over the world are focused on how somebody broke a law. In public domain all such actions may be judged through the prism of integrity ,moral obligation.,ultimately we have to put the onus back on the leadership and Governance to keep corruption under check. Amidst comments of sorrows and anger on social media a news that caught our eye’s” Omar apologizes…... who can we blame?”, a lead from valley’s largest circulating newspaper- Greater Kashmir.A heart talk of ,“ promises and pledge’s”, from the owner of my one time favorite blog ;"Truth Be Told,’, generating some hope for aspirants but equally true with sadness that we had to accept the fact that our Honorable CM Mr.Omar is not blogging anymore on this blog as certain comments made on social media deserved response (tweets). Agreeably, there is difference between perception and emotion we cannot let another greedy trickster to deprive deserving children of their future again-we all have to contribute towards this noble objective. The people need to wake up to themselves, to who they are at their core, and to, I believe most importantly, their Soul-Morality . Corruption violates the public trust- one is always suggested to stiff upper lips to demonstrate zero tolerance for corruption and no one, neither the highest government official nor the politician is immune from prosecution . Can corruption thrive in any society that upholds universal cross cultural beliefs such as thou shall not indulge in corruption or bribery, exploit or trade falsehood, don’t work with deception, favoritism and nepotism etc? Assuredly, this is not just an academic theory; it is an operational philosophy in any business much of the how improvements can be expected in our resolve to fight against corruption (Dr.Fiaz Fazili is a Senior Surgeon and Expert on Health care Quality and Standards for Hospital Accreditations)-
